A Sense of Style
During my career as a Decorator I have often been asked, "What is your style?" I try to convey to people that I do not have any particular style and my job is to create the style you want. However, sometimes clients don't know what style they are so it is my job to uncover their style by asking the right questions. I would like to help you in a brief descriptive way get you thinking about your style if you have no clue what it is. Read the decriptions below.
Modern Eclectic: pale colors, with textured fabrics and interesting old pieces mixed with modern.
Country Style: battered old plastered walls, brick floors, old or distressed dressers, painted chairs, scrubbed tables, and lots of old pots and earthenware.
Summer house: glass walls overlooking a large stretch of water, blue-painted woodwork to match the sky, white wicker furniture, an air of relaxation, maybe a white floor, walls, and ceiling, stone bed bases, soft grays and ivories.
Middle Eastern: trellised arch, different levels and piles of sumptuously colored cushions.
Oriental: shoji screens and the stepped pyramid of storage drawers, free standing floor lamps, silk wall covering
Classicism: cupola's, three arches incorporating the entryway, two niches for life-size statuary.
Roman: cornices with typical ancient architectural motifs, large scale furniture, marble, terracotta hues, greens, tans, reds, gray.
Contemporary: straight lines, microfiber solid fabrics, glass tops and metal frames, variation of colors, abstract designs.
Just a small list of styles. Please understand each style has several variations of textures and colors, but this can help lead you in the direction of determining your style.
