Need Idea for an Appetizer?
This is the time of year when we decide to have a holiday party and have to decide what to serve. If your looking for something different and very appetizing you might want to try my sicilian green olives stuffed with veal and pork. Even if you hate olives you will love these. I recently announced the four caterers who offer my olives (see link below for list), but if you don't want to hire a caterer and would like to order my olives, please email me teresa@absolutelivingtoday.com or call me at 856- 234-6115. Please provide a weeks notice so I can have them made fresh. I continue to be in negotiations with new sources for my olives. Please visit my website periodically for additions to the list.

Dessert Lovers Delight
Every Christmas I make my favorite dessert, which is Homemade Cannoli's. I would like to share with you a recipe I have used for a few years now. Not sure where I found this one, but I think you will like it. Cannoli Shells: 1 3/4 cups of sifted, regular all-purpose flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Make a well in the center; in it place 1 egg, slightly beaten and 2 tablespoons of firm butter, cut in small pieces. Stir with a fork, working from center out, to moisten flour mixture. Add about 1/4 cup of white wine (you can add a little more if you like), 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough begins to cling together. Use your hands to form dough into a ball. Cover and let stand for 15 minutes. Roll dough out on floured board about 1/16 inch thick. Cut into 3 1/2 inch circles. With rolling pin, roll circles into ovals. Wrap around Cannoli Forms (you can purchase these at any kitchen store, they are metal tubes specifically for making cannoli's). Seal edge with egg white. Turn out ends of dough to flair slightly. Fry two or three at a time in deep hot fat (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 1 minute, or until lightly golden. I use a fry daddy for this task. Remove with tongs to paper towels to drain; let cool about 5 seconds; then slip out Cannoli Form, holding shell carefully. (Metal will be hot). Cool shells completely before filling. Sift powdered sugar over shell. Makes about 25. Cannoli Filling: Whirl 2 pounds (4 cups) of whole milk ricotta cheese (do not use skim it will be too watery) in the blender, or press through wire strainer, until very smooth. Fold in 1 1/2 cups unsifted powdered sugar and 4 teaspoons vanilla. Mix in 1/4 cup chopped sweet chocolate. Chill several hours or overnight. Use pastry tube or spoon to fill shells. If you would like your filling to be fluffy, use 1/2 the recipe above for filling, then fold in 1 cup heavy cream which as been whipped until stiff. Enjoy!

3 Ways to Stash Gifts and Last Minute Decorating Ideas
Better Homes & Gardens offers these tips: 3 Ways to Stash Gifts:
Fill a bowl with tiny packages wrapped in colorful paper and trimmed with raffia and seashells. Hand out the packages to your guests at the end of the evening.
Load a Festive Shopping Bag or two with gifts you plan to deliver; then hang them as temporary holiday decorations in your front or back entry.
Hide Gifts in a Covered Basket to eliminate temptation. Wrap the gifts, tuck them inside, and wrap it all up with a wide ribbon.
Last Minute Decorating Ideas:
Dangle apples in frosty windows using festive ribbons. Apples will last about a week as decorations.
Tie tinsel around the top of lamp shades for a little holiday sparkle.
Stems with just a few berries make natural holders for family photographs. Tie branches with twine and add evergreen tassels; then insert photos in the branches.
Attach ribbon to the bottom of a chandelier and let it drape to the tabletop for a centerpiece that doesn't gobble up precious table space.
Fill a big bowl, tray, or basket with candles of all sizes in white and ivory, and then surround them with silver balls and beads.
Winter Travel Tips
There are a few steps you should take to prepare your vehicle for traveling in snowy or icy areas.
Check your antifreeze before you leave.
Carry chains or install snow tires, even if you have four wheel drive.
Carry extra water and food in your car, in case you get delayed or stuck.
Have blankets and warm clothing in the car. Also, be sure you have warm, waterproof shoes.
Allow extra time for your trip due to delays and slower traffic.
Be sure that someone knows your itinerary, route and plans before you leave.
Have a Save Holiday Season. Best Wishes.
