Hello Everyone! What a great month January turned out to be, for several reasons. The weather was great most of the month and a lot of you kept me very busy and continue to do so. Thanks again. Floor Lamps
If you are in the market for a floor lamp, don't worry as much about the aesthetics, focus on what the lamp is to achieve. It is to provide light for tasks and reading as well as adding a feeling of warmth to a room. Proper placement of the lamp is very important. Floor lamps should be 40-49 inches from the lower edge of the shade to the floor. Place the lamp behind the readers shoulder. You should use a soft white bulb of 150-200 watts and it should not exceed the shades maximum recommended wattages in order to avoid damaging the shade.
Vacation Checklist
This is the time of year vacations are taken to get away from the cold weather. Make sure you review this list before going away:
Make a list of everything you must take with you
Have mail and newspaper picked up
Someone to take care of plants and yard
Set time for lights
Have someone check home periodically
Lock vehicles left at home and hide keys
Wash dishes and run garbage disposal
Throw out perishable foods
Lock away or hide valuables
Run dishwasher night before leaving
Arrange for pool care
Turn on telephone answering machine
Empty trash and garbage
Activate security system, have someone who can respond if alarm goes off
Arrange for pet care
Unplug appliances
Throw out fresh flowers
Drop animals at kennel
Close and lock all windows and doors
Leave house clean and sheets changed
Have clean clothes for first few days home
Beef Stew Recipe
For those of you interested in entertaining, why not provide something nice and hot and delicious. Beef stew was a favorite in our home growing up. Fry in a deep fryer 2 lbs of beef cubes until brown in hot olive oil with two garlic cloves and 2 bay leaves. Add two small cans of Contadina paste and 4 cans of water. Chop 4-5 small Idaho potatoes into cubes, add carrots and half an onion. Add spices by judging the amount needed;Add salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder. Cook 1.5 hrs on low heat on stove; last 5 minutes add green peas. Enjoy!
