Your Challenges, Our Solutions. Your Happiness
June 2010

Dear Teresa,
Hello Everyone!

Summer time is quickly approaching, the best time to take advantage of holiday sales and decent weather to work on home projects.

Don't forget about your windows. If you have hardwood floors and lots of wood furniture you should consider putting something on your windows so you can block the direct sun and avoid damaging the woods.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Teresa Tocco-Davenport, CID

As an Interior Decorator I not only help you pull a room together by choosing furniture, accessories, finishes, etc., but window treatments are the icing on the cake, so to speak. They are what completes the room. I have three workrooms I do business with for custom drapery. My job as your decorator is to help you decide which window treatment design idea is best for your home and decor. Then I help select the fabrics I feel most compliments your decor. My workrooms are the technical ends of my business, they do the final measuring and production after we finalized your choices.

One of the vendors I do business with and I am a Distributor of their product is B&W Window Fashions, located in Illinois. I have been distributing for them since 2006 and have used them for my own home and many clients. There level of service, quality and pricing is unbelievable and they have a great assortment of designs they will manufacture, not to mention that they will also do custom modifications to their existing designs, if you want to tweak one of their designs.

Some of the products they offer are Natural Woven Shades, Averte Natural Folds, Fabric Roman Shades, Premium Top Treatments, Draperies and Side Panels, Shades of Elegance Collection of Roller Shades: Spring, Clutch and Cassette Roller Shades, Siesta Mylar Shades, Mesh Shades, Sheer Roman Shades, Laminates Collection of Shades, Elance Sliding Panels, Decorative Trimmings and Decorative Hardware. Motorization is an option.

One fo the newest products is the Twin Shade, which is a sheer Natural Woven Shade with a moveable Roller Shade Lining. Patent pending dual headrail system allows the roller shade to be mounted above the natural shade and it's all concealed under a classic valance. Can't be found anywhere else.

As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, Summer sun can damage your wood. B&W offers the Siesta Mylar Shades, they cut the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays by up to 99%.

They offer a large selection of fabrics, meticulous workmanship and attention to detail. All shades are handcrafted and made to order, and with the options of light filtering and room darkening. And the added plus is that their Natural Woven Shades and Mesh Shades are considered, "GREEN" products, enviornmentally friendly.

So if you are interested please give me a call and we can set up a time for a Window Consultation. For more information about B&W, visit their website by clicking on the link below.

Having Fun in the Sun
During the eighties, people became more aware of the potential damage caused by overexposure to the sun. Having grown up with a built-in pool and going to the beach all the time, later in life I developed skin cancer on my back. Luckily it was the lowest form of skin cancer, (basal cell), but still it was frightening to know I was now one of the statistics and I had to be more conscious of my time in the sun. Being Italian I thought I was protected having tough skin, but obviously I was wrong. Long gone are my gorgeous tans, I now use SPF 70 on my body.

As more and more evidence is discovered about the health effects of the sun with regard to unprotected skin, here are some facts to consider before you take that next trip to the beach.

1. 80% of skin cancer occurs on the face, head and neck. Be generous with sunscreen on these parts of the body. Also, consider wearing a hat.
2. SPF (Sun Protective Factor) has to do with the amount of time you can spend in the sun before burning. If you usually burn in 15 minutes, with SPF 10, you will theoretically get the same burn after 150 minutes - (15x10).
3. For every 1000 feet above sea level, ultraviolet light increases in intensity by 4% to 5%. If you are at an elevation of 4000 feet, the increase would be about 16% to 20%.
4. Recognize the symptoms of sun or heatstroke: hot, dry skin, no sweating, weakness, dizziness, rapid breathing, nausea, and high body temperature.
5. Sunstroke should be treated by cooling the person. Use cold water, ice or wrap the person in a wet sheet or towel. Seek medical attention. Pets are subject to sunstroke as well, so pay attention to our fury kids.
6. Babies under 6 months of age should be shielded from the sun because they usually have not developed their full skin pigmentation.
7. The sun is a source of Vitamin D. Children who are never in the sun and lack Vitamin D in their diet are at risk of developing rickets, a condition which softens the bones.
8. Sunlight tends to be a morale booster for most of us. People can actually suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during months of little sun. A lack of sunlight can have an effect upon our moods and behavior.
9. Sun tans look great, but the longer you sun bathe the more your skin will look like leather and you will age much more quickly.

I hope you found this helpful.
