Email Newsletter Archive- March 2009

Hello,
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Sorry for the delay in sending the newsletters. Bi-weekly is a little more challenging then I thought. After the Philadelphia Home Show in January I was so busy with projects that the time just passed me by. The Home Show was a success even though it did not get the attendance it normally receives, but those that did attend were serious about doing some home projects.
As I promised I am sending you decorating tips to help you with your "Do It Yourself" type projects.
Sincerely,

Teresa Tocco

PHILLY HOME SHOW TV SHOW
I hope you were able to catch the TV Show called, "There's No Place Like the Philadelphia Home Show" that aired on January 17, 2009. I was lucky enough to be on the show discussing "Green Products" I sell. If you didn't get a chance to watch it, just click on the link below and sit back and relax for 60 seconds.

"Green" Paint Products
Last month I introduced you to our Eco-Friendly Natural Woven Shades, this month I will discuss Benjamin Moores paint product that is also considered a "Green" product.
Benjamin Moore has a paint line called, "Natura Interior Acrylic Latex Premium Interior Waterborne Paint". It is 100% acrylic resin, with zero VOC (volatile organic compounds), no discernible smell virtually odorless, fast drying and better for the environment. Tinted with zero VOC colorants, excellent adhesion and durable finish.
They use new greener raw materials combined with a special refining process to remove odors and it has a waterborne colorant technology.
So when you consider painting, think about whether or not you want to help the environment, if so then consider this paint line.

Wool VS. Nylon 6.6 Synthetic Carpets
I would like to share with you some characteristics on Wool carpet compared to Nylon carpet.

Wool:
1. Natural, expensive and luxurious
2. Good crush resistance
3. Somewhat fire-retardant
4. Not as durable or stain-resistant as synthetic fibers
5. Cleans well but smells peculiar when wet
6. Dry foam extraction preferred. Water-based cleaning methods are acceptable but hot water may shrink fibers and cause colors to bleed.
7. Requires gental dishwahing detergents, diluted white vinegar, ammonia or hydrogen peroxide for spot cleaning
8. Soil protection is Lanolin, Scotchguard if labeled
9. Susceptible to mold, mildew, and shrinkage in humid conditions
10. Susceptible to moth damage
11. Sensitive to acids and Alkalis
12. Somewhat static resistant
13. Dissolves in chlorine bleach
14. Accepts dye well, though fading will occur over time
Nylon 6.6 synthetic:
1. STAINMASTER, Wear-Dated
2. High melting temperature (less than 260-265C or less than 500F)
3. Excellent crushing resistance
4. Good color fastness
5. Excellent dyeability
6. Good soil resistance, protected by Teflon or Scotchguard
7. Sensitive to acid dyes
8. No detergents necessary
9. Hot water extraction for cleaning
10. Anti-stain protection for acid stains
11. Static protection part of fiber
12. Needs high-temperature processing capability and technology to manage gelation (overcooking)
When purchasing carpet keep the above in mind, since carpets can be an expensive investment. (Information supplied by Avalon Carpet.)
