Safety Tips
Your home is where you feel safe and secure. However,
many accidents take place in the home. Consider the
following tips to keep your home safe.
Falls are the leading
cause of injuries in the home. Always have someone help
when you must climb. To prevent burns, keep your water
heater temperature low enough so scalding water does
not flow. Do not smoke in bed. Don't wear lose clothing
when cooking or barbecuing. Never use electrical appliances
near a sink or bathtub. Tack down rugs and carpets so
there are no loose edges. Consider using two sided tape
or purchase non-skid padding for area rugs.
Use non-skid mats or strips in the bathroom to prevent
slipping. Wear protective clothing and eye protection
when doing yard work. Have an emergency exit or excape
plan for fire, hurricane, terrorist attack, etc.
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) can be avoided by
having baby sleep on firm, flat mattress, no waterbeds;
Keep baby's room temperature between 60 and 70 degrees
Fahrenheit; Keep pillows, fluffy blankets, and stuffed
toys out of the crib and no smoking near a baby. All
of us know and understand the importance of these tips,
but we sometimes forget to demonstrate them when needed.
Exercise caution everyday and you will eliminate accidents.
