Your Challenges, Our Solutions, Your Happiness
July 2010

Hello!

Summer is a upon us now and it looks like it is going to be a hot one. Try to stay cool and enjoy the days as much as possible.

Since July is usually a slow month, I want to extend an invitation to all of you to take advantage of a special offer.

Read below for the guidelines.

Sincerely,

Cupboard Space
I know many of you struggle with organizing your kitchen cabinets, so I have some tips for you.

1. Subdivide drawers to organize cutlery (flatware), utensils and basic supplies such as garbage sacks, light bulbs and spare fuses.
2. Vary shelf height and depth so that you can group similar packages or items in the same location - cereal packets on one shelf, for example: canned goods on another.
3. Make use of the backs of cupboard doors to store items that might otherwise be overlooked - such as pan lids, or a collection of herbs and spices.
4. Think about how cupboard doors open. "Easy-on" hinges that allow doors to open so they are plumb with the frame are neater than conventional types. If space is very tight, consider changing hinged doors to those that slide or lift up and over, or to tambour doors that roll up like a shutter.
5. Investigate the variety of interior fittings on the market. These include wire or basket trays for keeping root vegetables aerated, trays that keep bread moist, and separate bins for deep drawers that enable you to store bottles upright.
6. Within a run of storage units, it is best to include a block of drawers, rather than having a drawer at the top of each unit. The uppermost drawer can be used to keep tensils and other items on daily call

"Storage Get Organized" by Terence Conran

I have had many a challenges myself, not to mention many clients of mine with kitchen storage issues. We have installed metal pull-out drawers that can hold pots and lids, or just bowls and other items. We added a custom made island that has 9" wide pull-out cabinets that are upright for canned goods, which frees up some storage in our pantry. We recently purchased air tight containers that are stackable to store our rice, pasta's, cereals, etc. We added a spice rack to our upper cabinet near the stove, it is mounted onto the back of the door, freeing up shelf space. There are so many great storage tools at Lowes or online, do some browsing and see what will work for you.
