Family Recipes For Sale

Outside of decorating, my next love is cooking. Over the last year I have registered three recipes with the Office of Copyright in Washington, DC. Two of these recipes I am selling to the public, the other I intend to mass produce and distribute as a frozen food product hopefully over the next year. The two recipes currently available to you are my fried eggplant and Italian meatball recipes. Trust me when I say there are no others like them. They are yummy. Good Lighting is an Essential Part of Your Decorating

Most of us don't realize how much light effects colors and moods. Some easy tips on good lighting. 1. Place lamps, fixtures so that there is no glare to disturb, no dark areas to strain. 2. Every chair should have a lamp next to it high enough to cast a glow over reading material held in the lap. 3. If you use a table lamp, the table plus the lamp base should total 39 to 42 inches high. Measure 20 inches to one side from the center of your reading material, then from here, measure 16 inches toward rear of chair. Place the lamp so that center of the shade is just about this point, with base in a direct line with shoulder. Shade should be at least 20" deep, 8.5" at the top, 20" at base. 4. If you use a floor lamp the height to the lower edge of the shade should be between 47 and 49 inches. Measure 15" to one side from the center of your reading material, 26" straight back to rear. Place lamp so shade center is above this point. 5. If your walls are dark, compensate with more and bigger lamps, brighter bulbs. 6. Spotlight wall decor and special accessories to accent them. Next month I will provide you with other scenarios and the proper placement of lighting.

November Energy Saving Tips

As winter causes the thermostat to drop, consider the following energy saving tips to keep your home running efficiently.

Insulate all attic areas and walls.
Insulate around electrical outlets with approved insulation materials.
Use your air conditioning sparingly. Open the windows at night to cool the house down.
Put an approved insulating blanket around your water heater.
Weather-strip all doors and windows. Be sure to occasionally ventilate the entire home.
Turn your thermostat down (up in the summer) when you aren't at home.
Consider deciduous trees and shrubs which allow sun on your home in the winter and offer shade in the summer.
And don't forget to stock up on the hot chocolate and marshmallow.
