Fall Season is Upon Us!

Free Seminar Response

On September 17, I held a free seminar on "How do You Begin The Decorating Process"? and I was very pleased with the event. Many new and old friends and family attended making the day well worth the time and effort in preparing. My guests enjoyed the seminar and also the time allotted to view all the different fabric samples, trims, wallpaper, carpet and paints available on display. If you didn't have an opportunity to attend I'm sure I will have others in the future.

Decorating Tip - Every Window has a Treatment

The custom window treatment industry is booming. More and more people are getting away from the ready made treatments and requesting custom made. The older homes provide for unusual sized windows and the new homes are being built with larger and taller windows therefore creating a dilemma in finding just the right treatment. I would like to provide you some tips on dressing particular windows. a) Treating the window with a view - Use a subdued window treatment which calls attention to outdoor beauty instead of to itself. b) Problem windows - Disguise them with curtains that blend or match the adjoining wall. Or make them the center of interest by covering with a color or pattern which sharply contrasts the wall. c) Casement windows - pay attention to the direction the windows open, this determines the type of window treatments that will work best. Also to create a smooth effect chose fabric blinds for the window, using fabric which matches the walls.

October's Halloween Checklist

Halloween is often one of the highlights of a child's year. However, it can also be a dangerous holiday. Follow the steps listed below for a safe and enjoyable holiday. 1) Have children wear reflective clothing or markings when trick or treating. 2) Make sure the child can breathe and see well in the costume. 3) Avoid falls by making sure the child's costume is properly sized. 4) Always accompany your children when they are trick or treating. 5) Teach children the rules of the road, look both ways, etc. 6) Always check candy before letting the child indulge. Never let them eat treats from opened wrappers, fruit or single pieces of gum. Many hospitals will x-ray candy free of charge. 7) Go to the door with the child as a safety precaution. 8) Trick or treat between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00pm. 9) Help children carve pumpkins. 10) Carry a flashlight.
